Description: This feature class depicts wetlands that provide value to wildlife. Habitats (emergent marsh, shallow open water, deep open water, wet meadow, shrub swamp, bog, and wooded swamp) were digitized from high resolution aerial imagery. Each wetland then was evaluated for its performance in five criteria: 1) Components = the relative abundance and value of habitat type(s) in the wetland, 2) Diversity = the number of different habitat types, 3) Layout = the spatial arrangement of habitats, 4) Wetness = the percent of open water, 5) Size = total wetland acreage. "Performance" in each of these criteria was attributed as either adequate (1), which includes anything better than adequate, or inadequate (0). Wetlands that performed adequately in at least 2 of the 5 criteria were included in this layer of "wildlife wetlands".
